FRONTIER INCIDENTS.

1. Except for a certain livliness at Sham Chun the north-west

frontier is otherwise peaceful.

2. On the 12th instant a Sun Yat Sen Anniversary Meeting was

held at Sham Chun. There was a good deal of speech-making,

some of the speeches being rather inflammatory and anti-British

in character; otherwise the meeting was without incident.

Yesterday, the 19th instant, a meeting of Soldiers and

Citizens was held at Sham Chun, the event being previously

advertised by red banners suspended across the streets bearing

the characters ($b.¶¶ký ) (Please attend the

combined Entertainment of Saldiers & Citizens). The major por-

tion of the audience consisted of about 1,000 Soldiers and "Lang

lan" from throughout on, augmented by Railway Employees

(Chinese Section), Students, Labour Union officials and loading

merchants. Speeches were given by representatives of the

various parties present, pamphlet (A) attached being a summary

of the various subjects embraced. These latter consisted mainly

of diatribes against Tun Ki Sui for his massacre of "Heroes"

at Peking; Chang Tso Lin and his troops; Britain, Japan, France,

America and others for assisting in the transport of Feng troops,

etc. Reference was made to the French Revolution of 1870, which

was extolled as an example of the will of the people. There was the usual claptrap about Imperialism, "running doga", and much

frenzied invective in general, but the crowd remained orderly throughout the proceedings which terminated at about 1600 hours.

沙頭角 4. That a military guard is still necessary at Shataukok is

shown by the following incident. About noon on the 18th instant

in the short interval of changing the picket, the boundary was

visited
